The story

A group of friends gather for a dinner party in honour of one of their own having written and published a romance novel. But affairs have been taking places and upon revelation, one of the characters spikes another’s salad with nuts. What follows is a “what do we do now?” farce as an aspiring detective guest attempts to get to the bottom of it.

The characters

ELEANOR: A writer, Eleanor has just published her first book – a romance novel – that may or may not be based on real life. She is intelligent, realistic, independent and doesn’t like a fuss.

ADDISON: Addison, a publicist, is Eleanor’s best friend. She is rarely seen without a drink in her hand – and thinks she’s a bit posh.

KIM: An eccentric drama teacher, Kim wears her emotions on her sleeve. Eleanor is Kim’s best friend, but doesn’t get along with Addison. Kim is dating Sinclair.

GEOFFREY: Addison’s long-term partner, Geoffrey is a therapist who dabbles in a range of alternative therapy methods – including art therapy and mediation. He is unaware he sometimes gets on people’s nerves.

VICTOR: Eleanor’s husband, Victor is a wealthy businessman. Caught up in his work, he doesn’t spend as much time at home as he should – and is sometimes in the arms of another woman.

SINCLAIR: Ruggedly handsome, Sinclair is the typical outdoorsy type. He arrives to the party as Kim’s date, but unbeknownst to Kim, has been having a secret affair with Eleanor.

ROBERT: A sub-par police analyst, Robert yearns to be a detective. The fact he is not yet a police officer is a bit of a sore point.

AMANDA: Robert’s wife, Amanda is a stay-at-home mum who fears she no longer fits in with the other women. Previously worked with Kim as an English teacher.

MARY: Addison and Geoffrey’s nosy neighbour. Mary is the president of the neighbourhood watch committee. She has a knack for turning up at exactly the wrong moment.

CHRIS: Chris is a mechanic. Generally called out to help Kim find her keys.
