June 2006 Social Climbers is about six women secondary school teachers and one of their daughters as they set off on a three day tramping trip during mid term break. It is intended as a healing process for one of their number who has had a crisis in her life. The play opens as they reach the first hut after their first day tramping. Unfortunately the weather turns and they get rained in, so they are confined to the hut until the weather clears. This enforced close confinement reveals many emotions between the colleagues resulting in some hilarious moments as well as some poignant ones. The play is mostly funny, sometimes sad, and very New Zealand. Venue The Theatre Space, Newlands Arms, Newlands Dates - Thursday 15 June at 8.00 p.m.
